Sunflower Power Herb Walk

This is an IN-PERSON workshop.

Celebrate the summer solstice with the medicine of the sunflower family! Join us for an herb walk through Alemany Farm to identify medicinal and edible members of the Asteraceae or sunflower family. Discover what makes this the largest flowering plant family in the world and the many herbal actions of their medicinal species. Enjoy optional tastings of medicinal and edible plants regionally adapted to the Bay Area as you learn about their health supporting properties.

Tessa Kappe (she/her) is a clinical herbalist, educator and gardener based on unceded Ohlone land in San Francisco, CA. She spent a decade working towards social and ecological healing running school garden, nutrition and food justice programs for city youth. Currently Tessa teaches botany to herbalists and offers sliding scale herbal health consultations to adults, teens and kids. She holds a B.A. in Politics from UC Santa Cruz with a focus in Feminist Studies, certificates in clinical herbalism from Scarlet Sage School of Traditional Healing Arts and permaculture design from Urban Permaculture Institute, and is a certified UC California Naturalist. Find her on both sides of your local farmers market, strolling the Excelsior hills and leading classes and herb walks around the city.

Suggested Donation: $30 per person; no one turned away for lack of funds. Our workshops are donation-based. Your donation supports the farm to grow and give away food for free. Please give at the suggested level or higher if you are able.

What do I do if I cannot afford the suggested donation?

We encourage everyone to make an offering commensurate with your means, and in an amount that feels powerful to you - such gifts make workshops like these possible. We also do not want money to be a barrier to entry. Therefore our workshop is offered freely: please select the "Equity Admission" option if it applies to you.
