Sundae Tea: Legendary Community Talk-BackPresented as part of the DC Black Pride Celebration of Life and DC Pride WeekendBrought to you by Proteus E2 Productions

Join Sidra Smith, Producer and Casting Director in conversation with Javon Johnson, Writer and Director, Actor, Tyler Perry’s The Oval (BET) and The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) and DaShawn Usher, Founder and Executive Director, Mobilizing Our Brothers Initiative (MOBI), for a powerful community conversation celebrating Invisible Life: The Musical, the enduring legacy of E. Lynn Harris, and the cultural impact of Black LGBTQ+ storytelling.

Rooted in legacy, visibility, artistry, and community, this talk-back will explore the importance of bringing Black queer stories to the stage while honoring the layered conversations E. Lynn Harris helped bring into the mainstream around the down low, bisexuality, race, identity, faith, love, secrecy, family, and relationships with Straight Black Women.

E. Lynn Harris’s work shaped generations, not only through his portrayal of Black gay and bisexual men, but through the deep connection he built with straight Black women, who made up a significant and devoted part of his readership and fan base. This conversation will honor that full cultural legacy while creating space for dialogue around love, identity, chosen family, creative courage, and representation.

This event is free and open to the community, with an open bar available for guests.
