About this Event
Summer of Soul is a shared film and listening experience celebrating the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival — a moment when music, culture and community came together in a powerful and joyful way.
This screening takes place at Printworks and is the final event in a series of five film and conversation nights curated as part of Hidden Beach’s Summer of Culture programme. Together, the series has explored how music, culture and storytelling shape identity, memory and connection, and this final night brings that journey to a warm and reflective close.
The film features extraordinary performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Mahalia Jackson and many others, while also capturing the wider social and cultural meaning of the festival itself.
The evening is held as a shared cultural moment — inviting people to gather, watch, listen and reflect together. It is designed to be open, welcoming and accessible, with no specialist knowledge needed to take part, and offers a space for people from different backgrounds to come together across communities and share in a meaningful closing moment.
