Every great community has a moment — a gathering where neighbors become friends, where kids run free, where music fills the air and everyone feels like they belong. On June 6, 2026, Black in McAllen is creating that moment.
Summer Kickoff is our inaugural community celebration, held at Tres Lagos — a free, open-to-the-public event designed for families, neighbors, and anyone who believes that community is worth investing in.
More Than a Party. A Movement.
Summer Kickoff is the kickoff to Juneteenth month — a joyful, purposeful gathering rooted in culture, connection, and collective growth. Think summer block party: a live DJ setting the vibe, an MC keeping the energy high, kids competing in games, families sharing meals from Black-owned food vendors, and local Black-owned businesses getting the spotlight they deserve.
This is for the family who just moved to McAllen and doesn't know where to find their people. For the kid who needs something to look forward to now that school lets out. For the Black-owned business that's been here all along — quietly serving the community, waiting to be discovered.
We're building that space. Right here. Right now.
What Guests Will Experience
🎵 Live DJ & MC keeping the energy from the first song to the last dance
🤸 Jump Rope Contest & Live Games, Door Prizes, where kids and adults compete for prizes — think free swim lessons, summer basketball clinics, and more
🍽 Black-Owned Food Vendors gathered under the pavilion, where families can sit, eat, and stay a while
🌟 Community Spotlight celebrating the Black-owned businesses, creatives, and leaders right here in the Rio Grande Valley
📸 Photo moments, connection activities, and the kind of memories that make you come back every year
