Event Itinerary:

10:00 to 1:30 – Student Anxiety Workshop: Led by Dr. Kester Phillips, this workshop focuses on student anxiety in reading tasks. Participants will engage with the Reader Stress Survey to identify stress areas and brainstorm solutions for a supportive learning environment.


1:30 to 2:30 – Networking Event: An opportunity to build professional relationships, share knowledge, and gain insights from industry peers, enhancing career growth and development.


2:30 to 5:00 – Transformative Workshop for School Leaders: This workshop focuses on leadership, social-emotional learning, whole brain learning, and community. It offers strategies to boost student engagement, enhance communication, and transform school culture.



Bio
Donna C. Kester Phillips, Ph.D., has been an educator since the 1970’s beginning as a K-12 reading specialist and then an elementary classroom teacher. Her experiences eventually led her to the college level where she is currently an Associate Professor of Literacy and Founder/Director of the Center for Mindful Practice at Niagara University. Her research interest on the impact of reader stress prompted her to create the Reader Stress Survey. She is the author of the monthly children’s book review for the Western New York Family Magazine, a certified Qigong teacher and trauma informed yoga teacher. She is the co-author of Taming the Turmoil: Mindful Movement for a Calm Classroom.
