Join in for a relaxing, low pressure night of creativity learning Suminagashi, the meditative art of marbling, at Dovetail Brewery, located between Ravenswood Corridor and the North Center neighborhood, about one mile from Wrigley Field.
In this workshop, guided by Kelly Laughlin, artist and founder of Odette Press, you'll learn the process of Suminagashi, the ancient, meditative Japanese paper marbling process translating to "floating" or "spilled" ink. You'll learn how to use colorful inks to paint on the surface of water as you create your nature inspired marbled designs using ink, breath, paper, and water.
Arrive curious, and leave feeling inspired. You'll leave with a collection of marbled papers.
If you've been feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the spark of your creativity, this tranquil, simple evening is here to support, ground, and revive you. This workshop is great for beginners, and all materials will be provided. Come alone and gift yourself some creativity in solitude, or bring your friends and make it a date night to remember and enjoy an inspiring night of creativity together.

The Flow:
Settle in to your spot at Dovetail and grab a drink from the bar. After a short creative prompt to inspire your creativity, you'll be led through a short demonstration of the Suminagashi process. After, you'll dive into the creative waters of marbling, finding inspiration in the soothing, mesmerizing practice. The rest of the time is yours to go with the flow as you creative your marbled designs. You'll leave with a collection of handmade marbled papers, great for gifting, letter writing, collaging, or framing for artful inspiration to your home.

About your host:
Kelly Odette Laughlin is a Chicago-based artist, writer, facilitator, and creative guide and the founder of Odette Press. Her practice is an infusion of movement, ink, breath, paper, water and lyricism, drawing from a deep connection with the senses and the natural world.
