The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG served on the High Court of Australia from February 1996 to February 2009. At the time of his retirement he was the longest serving judge in Australia. Prior to his appointment to the High Court, he served as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia and as President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal. He was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in 1983 and Companion of the Order of Australia in 1991 for his service to the Law, Law reform, to Learning and to the Community.
