Sugar Britches is a blend of mischievous high-brow honky-tonk with eclectic instrumental accompaniment and clever lyrics, written by Brian Johanson and performed by a collection of characters. Combining good ‘ol country heartache along with snarky folksy wit, Sugar Britches has been playing non-stop throughout Colorado and the great West in bars, parking lots, weddings, bat mitzvahs, rodeos, amphitheaters and regular-ass theaters since 2017. They are excited to be back at Unit B by Chocolate Maven for another intimate evening of storytelling, humor, amazing musicianship and very tight pants.
The Lineup:
- Brian Johanson (acoustic guitar/vocals): a Colorado native, Brian has been performing throughout the West for the last 25 years (He’s the old one). He writes the majority of his songs based on trauma and tackles them with humor, which his therapist says isn’t the best way to handle things. He has released four albums with Sugar Britches, and one with his bluegrass band, Glove Trucker.
- Lance Ruby (electric guitar): a Utah Native, Lance has been a guitarist extraordinaire since he picked one up. He went on a full-ride scholarship to Utah State and the University of Northern Colorado, and has a degree in Jazz guitar. He plays in many bands, such as Musketeer Gripweed, Graham Good and the Painters, but his favorite is Sugar Britches.
- Cameron Collums (Bass/vocals): born in the wilds of Alaska and shipped all over Europe, Cameron fell in love with the bass and has been playing all styles of music for years. He is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, with a major in Jazz bass. His mustache is NOT to be touched.
- Zee (Fiddle/Vocals): is a Nashville native, but has called Colorado home for many years. She has been trained in classical violin, but can really honky-tonk it up when the occasion calls for it. Her voice leaves folks speechless, and is reminiscent of a singer in smoky speakeasy. Zee also is the frontwoman for her band, Wicked Vixen, where she plays electric violin and is very scary!
Doors open at 5:30 pm for dinner, wine and craft cocktails. Showtime is 7:00 pm.
