Materials with Memories with Fasiha
Materials with Memories
Participants will use fabric markers to draw meaningful symbols, patterns, or words onto their items, capturing the essence of their positive experiences and memories. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to sew beads onto the fabric, adding a vibrant dimension to their creations.
Whether it's a shirt from a memorable trip, a piece of fabric from a loved one, or any other cherished item, this workshop provides a platform for storytelling and creativity. By the end of the session, participants will have transformed their personal items into unique, wearable art pieces that celebrate and preserve their positive memories.
All necessary materials, including a variety of fabric markers and beads, will be provided. No prior experience in drawing or sewing is required – just bring your meaningful item and an open heart!
About the artist:
Fasiha is a Peterborough based artist, telling stories through illustration, painting and paper cutting. Fasiha is currently exploring the emotional and familial impact colonialism has had on identity and people like herself. By incorporating traditional south asian elements in her work, she weaves a tapestry of visual storytelling that resonates with personal and collective histories.
Part of the Style Stories Exhibition Launch.
Style Stories is a project by the Jumped Up Theatre ‘New Creatives’ a group of 16-24 year olds who create campaigns by and for the young people of Peterborough to explore topics important to them.
Explore stories of passing pieces down, mending, upcycling, precious memories and more. Style Stories invites you to examine your own relationship to fashion, to celebrate the pieces you love and be inspired to approach fashion in a more environmentally sustainable way.
