“A Theology of Artificial Intelligence”
By Dr. Taido Chino, Tutor in Academic Doctrine
Dr Taido writes:
“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere today. It shows up regularly in our newsfeeds - both in the titles of articles and as the 'authors' of these same articles. Our computers increasingly default to give us AI generated content first, regardless of whether we want it or not. We are regularly asked by AI tools if we would like them to summarise documents and emails that are deemed to be too long. Its use is rampant in educational institutions of all kinds, many of which are encouraging its adoption in order to stay sufficiently tech-savvy. Some people are even forming romantic attachments to their AI-bots. Those who are excited by the technology believe that AI will deliver us into a new age ripe with possibilities. Others are convinced it will be our undoing. This session will help us to consider how Christians might respond to this rapidly developing technology by looking to the deep resources within the Christian faith to help us understand God, ourselves, and the world around us.”
