Welcome to the Studio Ghibli Theme Concert! Prepare to be transported into the enchanting world of Studio Ghibli's magical melodies by Joe Hisaishi. Join us on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 19:00 in the prestigious Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music, as the closing concert of Opus One Music's Summer Piano Festival. Doors open at 18:30, and the concert will commence promptly at 19:00, with a brief intermission from 19:30 to 19:45.


Immerse yourself in live performances of iconic soundtracks from beloved Ghibli classics such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Princess Mononoke. Musician:


  • Saori Oda - Soprano

SAORI ODA recently appeared in PACIFIC OVERTURES at The Menier Chocolate Factory as Shogun / Madam. She took part in a workshop of a new musical GALAXY TRAIN at The Other Palace and played Carlotta, in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Her Majesty's Theatre, a role she had played on the UK Tour. Saori has toured the UK as Christmas Eve in AVENUE Q and other credits include ALADDIN at The Hackney Empire, THE KING AND I at The London Palladium, MISS SAIGON UK Tour, CAROUSEL & MADAME BUTTERFLY at the ENO, MISS SAIGON West End, THE LION KING West End, WICKED West End and THE WIZARD OF OZ.


  • Angus Gibbon - Violin

Angus Gibbon studied at the RNCM with Lydia Mordkovich and Richard Deakin, continuing with Emmanuel Hurwitz and Mikael Kopelman in London. He has performed with orchestras such as the Philharmonia, European Community Chamber Orchestra, and the English Chamber Orchestra, and spent seven years with the Rosell String Quartet. Currently, he is the Principle Second Violin with the English String Orchestra and the English Symphony Orchestra. Prof. Angus has taught at the RNCM junior department, Royal Holloway College, University of London, and Southampton university. He has been Head of Strings at Hampton School and St Paul's Girls' School, London, and is now Head of Strings at Oundle School. Additionally, he has advised ABRSM on technical exam content and served as a violin specialist Diploma examiner. He is currently external violin specialist examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate exams at the Royal College of Music, London.


  • Aleksandra Pykacz - Cello

Aleksandra pykacz completed her MA in Cello Peerformance at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. A prize-winner in numerous classical music competitions, she has been invited to perform at festivals such as Harmos Classical in Portugal, Santander Music Festival in Spain, and Tehran Contemporary Music Festival, where she premiered Hooshyar Khayam's Cello Concerto. Her musical interests span classical, pop, jazz, and world music. With a rich performance history across multiple countries, Aleksandra continues to captivate audiences worldwide.


  • Hiroko Yamamoto - Piano

Hiroko Yamamoto graduated from Trinity College of Music, studying piano with Alexander Ardakov and Nina Sereda, and classical singing with Elizabeth Haws, Penny Clark, and Joh Wakefield. She won the 4th prize at the Beethoven Piano Competition in Japan and the Anthony lindsay Piano Prize from Trinity College. Hiroko has performed in Portugal, Japan, Australia, and the UK, including St George's in Bristol and St James' Church in Piccadiilly Circus. She has toured with opera singers on Swan Hellenic Cruise and P&O across the Atlantic Ocean.

For the past seven years, Hiroko has studied under Pascal Nemirovski, focusing on piano performance and pedagogy. She continues to perform as a soloist and chamber musician. She served as Head of Music at a primary school in South Kensington for 12 years, directing numerous school productions and concerts, including several at the Royal College of Music.
