An evening celebrating the vibrant meeting of guitar and wind symphony through music rich in colour, contrast, and energy. The program opens with Tielman Susato’s Selections from Danserye, bringing Renaissance dance rhythms to life, followed by Joaquín Rodrigo’s Adagio Para Orquestra de Instrumentos de Viento. At the heart of the concert is Stephen Goss’s Concerto of Colours, featuring soloist Ken Murray, exploring the guitar’s expressive range against the expansive palette of wind symphony.
After the interval, Ensemble 3, composed of Conservatorium staff Ken Murray, Joel Brennan (trumpet), and Don Immel (trombone) presents a special collaborative performance, alongside Percy Grainger’s reimagined Random Round. The evening concludes with Joseph Schwantner’s atmospheric …and the mountains rising nowhere. From Renaissance dances to contemporary masterworks, Strum celebrates dialogue between tradition and innovation for an unforgettable night of music.
