We are so excited to invite you to join us for the 4th year in our journey to support, raise awareness for, and #StopCMV!✋🏻We are even more excited to invite you, your family, friends, and the broader community to walk🚶🏽♂️ run🏃🏼♀️ or roll🦽🚲🛼 alongside Lennox and others impacted by CMV at our upcoming Strides4CMV walk on June 20th at 9:45am at Gray's Lake Park in Des Moines IA. The more the merrier as there's never too much awareness to spread!🎗
A little about why this walk is close to our hearts! Our daughter Lennox was diagnosed with CMV (Cytomegalovirus) shortly after her birth, which is the primary reason for her disabilities. CMV is a virus that was passed over to Lennox while in the womb and caused some deformities in her brain that have stunted her development and left her permanently disabled. When CMV is contracted in the womb, it's referred to as congenital CMV.
🔸️Only 9% of women know about CMV and it is not regularly tested for in order for mothers to know about the risks.
🔹️1 in every 200 children is born with congenital CMV in the US.
🔸️1 in 3 children have been infected by CMV by 5 years old.
🔹️1 in 5 children born with congenital CMV will develop serious health complications, which includes hearing loss, visual impairments, developmental delays, seizures, and cerebral palsy, among other complications.
🔸️More children will have disabilities due to congenital CMV than other well known conditions, including Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Spina Bifida, and Pediatric HIV/AIDS
‼️We are partnering with the National CMV foundation to run the campaign for a Des Moines Strides4CMV walk and have set a fundraising goal this year for $3,500 after we exceeded last year's goal and raised nearly $1,900! You can access our fundraising link here:⬇️

Any donations made to the CMV foundation go towards expanding their mission which is to prevent pregnancy loss, childhood death, and disability due to congenital CMV. It also provides immediate resources that are directed towards awareness campaigns and pediatric research opportunities. This both helps advocate with legislatures to improve awareness and testing to identify CMV as well as making progress towards appropriately prioritizing research to pursue a cure for the virus.🩶
