About this Event
Join the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the UN and the office of the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone in partnership with Just Rights for Children at this high-level event taking place alongside the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
Every three seconds, one girl under the age of 18 is forced into marriage. At this current rate, the UN estimates that it will take 300 years to end child marriage.
By reframing child marriage as a crime, using the law as a deterrent, working to ensure families are more resilient, and collaborating across all facets of civil society to address structural barriers and promote inclusive and equitable legal systems, it is possible to eliminate child marriage for good, globally.
The event will include case studies, survivor narratives and best practices for governments and organisations working toward achieving UN SDG 5.3 on eliminating child marriage.
