- Expanding Sanctuary (USA / 2023 / 20:23 Minutes): Immigrant mother Linda Hernandez emerges as a community leader during the historic campaign to end the sharing of the Philadelphia police database with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Expanding Sanctuary tells a rarely told story about a Latinx immigrant community’s successful journey to change legislation and protect families.
- Supa Hair (USA / 2023 / 14 Minutes): After the death of her mother, Luna and her sister, Carmen move from Dominican Republic to Arizona to live with their estranged grandmother. There, Luna is confronted with bullying and her sister's cold shoulder. At this point, Luna has neglected her hair as a manifestation of her grief. One night, Luna decides to comb her hair with an old comb she found in the river in the Dominican Republic prior to her exit. Unbeknownst to her, the comb is actually part of her family lineage that activates a magic power that had been lost for decades. Her grandmother instantly recognizes the artifact and guides Luna through a ceremony that will help her reclaim the powers. In her ceremony state, Luna is taken through her ancestral history and a final goodbye from her mother that’ll forever change her life.

Scribe Video Center’s annual Street Movies! series returns for its 27th year this summer, bringing independent, local, and award-winning films to outdoor community spaces across Philadelphia. For over two decades now, Street Movies! has been a great way for people to gather together, engage with independent film, and foster discussion around the cultural histories of their neighborhood and issues affecting their communities. All screenings are free, open to the public, and family-friendly.
