We all live story-worthy lives. Everyone has short anecdotes and epic stories. In this two-part personal storytelling workshop, we'll look at crafting our own experiences into personal stories to share at the Shetland Story Slam, or at your next job interview, family event or night out with friends.

During the two half day workshops, the same group of participants will:
► Explore story principles: beginnings and endings, transformation, moments of tension and emotion etc.
► Mine our memories for story ideas: think of a time that stands out, a chance you took, a decision you made.
► Craft a five-minute story: structure, detailed scenes, techniques to connect with listeners
► Tell our story to other participants
► Work on stories relating to 'family', whatever family means to you. Stories can be hilarious or poignant, recent or something that happened many years ago. What are the secrets, lies, recipes, heirlooms, legacies, curses or traditions that helped shape you?
There will be some preparation work to do before the first session - please ensure that your contact details are correct at the time of booking, so workshop materials can be sent in advance.
The workshops will be facilitated by Liz Musser, non-fiction storyteller, and Ruth Oliver, writer and editor (and one-time stand up comic).
One ticket allows you to attend both sessions:
Saturday 23 May 2026, 9:30am - 1pm
Saturday 6 June 2026, 9:30am - 1pm
Participants must be over 16 and available for both sessions. Only one ticket can be booked per customer.
