About this Event
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Fulham Library will host authors Susan Jordan and Nick Alldridge for readings and a Q&A on their works The Box and The God of Coffee Shops and Kindness. Both will read from and sign copies of their books, and discuss how their works came to be written. Whilst the authors can signpost to services if requested, the event is not intended to address audience members’ personal issues.
The Box by Susan Jordan is a beautifully observed novel about loss and its aftermath, full of intelligence and subtlety. Readers have found it engrossing, moving, perceptive and skilfully written. The novel depicts their grief and pain without drawing us into a miasma of darkness, and the ending leaves room for hope. Susan Jordan is a published poet and The Box shows that she is also a powerful novelist.
Nick Alldridge’s first poetry collection for Palewell Press was Playing with the Pieces, about his recovery from depression. His poems in The God of Coffee Shops and Kindness are on the need for more tolerance of each other's life choices and mental health. With courage, humour and compassion, he approaches the sensitive topics of gender, mental health and poverty. How can we live alongside those around us without either offending or ignoring them?
Palewell Press is an independent publisher in South West London of books on Human Rights, Environment and Lost Wellbeing.
