About this Event
This ten-week course is term time only, Thursday 9.30 am - 12.30 pm.
Overview of course:
A class for mixed ability students with an interest in gaining new skills with fabric and thread and who want to explore the possibilities of using textiles creatively.
A variety of embroidery stitches will be explored alongside other creative textile techniques resulting in student’s own, originally designed work.
There will be plenty of scope for experimentation with stitch and textiles and throughout this class there will be one to one advice from an experienced, contemporary Textile Artist.
The class will share and discuss their work with each other and develop a peer group of likeminded supportive stitchers.
What will I learn?
Students will learn a variety of textile techniques and gain skills in using stitches, fabric, and thread to make their own original and creative work.
Learn how different tools, equipment and materials are used to create different effects.
The basic principles and techniques of design, where to find inspiration and how to record creative ideas will be discussed as students work.
How to discern the suitability of fabrics and threads for a particular purpose.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone with an interest in using stitch, fabric, and thread creatively.
Potential students may have taken up a sewing needle during lock-down, maybe through completing kits or picking up an unfinished sewing project from long ago.
This class would be ideal for anyone who has always had an interest in practical sewing but does not have the confidence to be creative and make their own original designs.
Will I have to provide anything?
- There will be a short list of basic sewing equipment to start the course (list to follow).
- As the class progresses there will be further fabrics and threads required as students make choices about what they want to make.
- Usually quantities will be small, and in many cases the tutor will have materials for students to purchase as they need, alternatively students could shop and share amongst themselves.
