National Stephen Lawrence Day at the SLRC
Join us on April 22, 2026 for a special day at The Seminar Room at the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre. It’s a great chance to connect, learn, and commemorate the legacy of Stephen Lawrence in a relaxed and welcoming setting. In partnership with DMU Special Collections.
We have activities running all day. Please use this to sign up if you would like to do a reading for the 'Open Mic' session 12.30-1pm.
For all other activities please drop in to the centre from 10am-5pm. See below for details.
National Stephen Lawrence Day 2026
In partnership with DMU Special Collections and to mark the National Year of Reading 2026.
10am-12noon: Short Film Screenings in the Seminar Room, Hu0.78
A selection of short films and programmes that delve deeper in the case of Stephen Lawrence and and speak to the themes raised by the family's ongoing fight for justice.
12.30-1pm: OPEN MIC! What books or texts really made an impact on you that changed the way you felt about social justice or activism? We are inviting people to read an excerpt of that life-changing text to inpsire others. PLEASE REGISTER VIA THIS EVENTBRITE.
1-3pm: Bring a book to swap, make your own book mark crafting session, and take inpsiration from the display of the SLRC team's book recommendations.
3-5pm: Co-reading session - bring your own book or choose from one of the SLRC's reference library. This is a space to read in the company of others.
10am-5pm: the centre will be open for visitors to view the Stephen Lawrence Exhibition in Hu0.78a
All activities are FREE. You are welcome to bring snacks and lunch.
Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available!
