🎤📚 Akron Press Club Luncheon: State of the Akron Public Schools 📚🎤Join the Akron Press Club on March 3, 2026, as Superintendent Mary B. Outley delivers her first State of the Akron Public Schools address.
Superintendent Outley, who became APS superintendent in April 2025 after serving as interim superintendent, brings more than 34 years of service to Akron Public Schools as both a teacher and administrator. A proud Akron native and Buchtel High School graduate, her career has spanned classrooms and leadership roles across the district—from Erie Island Elementary to principal of Crouse Elementary and executive director of elementary education.
During the luncheon, Superintendent Outley will address the current state of the 20,000-student district, including:
A projected budget deficit
Major building projects in Kenmore and North Hill
Budget and policy changes at the state and federal levels
There will also be an opportunity for audience questions during the program.

🎓 Why it matters: Proceeds from Akron Press Club events support scholarships for journalism and public relations students. Last year, the Press Club—along with the John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund and the Sojourner Truth Project—awarded multiple $5,000 scholarships to college and Akron Public Schools students.
