About this Event
Saturday November 9 to Saturday November 23, 2024
“I’m a huge fan of daily, by-appointment 15-minute free-writing. Without that practice to help me loosen up, I wouldn’t have finished a single book.” - Abigail De Witt on
Improving as a writer involves cultivating the habit of writing regularly. You have to write a lot and read a lot, as Stephen King says. Yet sticking to a writing practice is difficult given the many other things competing for our attention, and it’s especially hard to do alone. In this completely asynchronous class, you will join a community of writers and build your writing practice through daily writes and feedback exchanges, entirely via email. We provide prompts, accountability and the structure for daily writing exchanges.
Led by The Write Salon’s Instructor Willow Mata, this class gives you practice writing for an audience and getting consistent feedback on your work from assigned partners. To keep the experience fresh and give you the chance to be read by different people, we’ll change your partner every five days. The best part? You’ll need just 30 minutes a day to participate, and can write at whatever time of day works best for you.
Whether you’re just getting started writing, coming back to the page after a long time away, or simply looking for a low-pressure structure to rekindle your practice, this class is for you.
All genres welcome. No live sessions – everything happens via email and in Google Docs.
