About this Event
Classic New Orleans Jazz Sextet
May the 4th be with you! This is the second time Crooners will bring Southside Aces in for a proper celebration of Star Wars Day. “Cantina Band,” of course, but you’ll be astounded hearing “The Imperial March” through the hot jazz filter. All that and much more. Southside Aces additional Star Wars cred includes a Star Wars-themed 40th birthday party as well as trombonist Eric Johnson having been playing "The Imperial March" since he was eleven. To paraphrase Darth Vader, “Don’t underestimate The Force…of New Orleans Jazz.”
Tony Balluff: Clarinet
Dan Eikmeier: Trumpet, Vocals
Eric Johnson: Trombone, Vocals
Erik Jacobson: Sousaphone
Robert Bell: Guitar
Dave Michael: Drums
For two decades Southside Aces have performed the music of New Orleans from Jelly Roll Morton to Louis Armstrong to Preservation Hall and more. They have eight albums to their credit, including 2022’s Minneapolis Bump, all originals in the early jazz style. Two new albums are in the pipeline—one dedicated to the music of Sidney Bechet, and the other to a perfect New Orleans party.
“The performers are virtuosi and flawlessly replicate the sound of classic New Orleans…The concert was wonderful and demonstrates the continued vitality of this sort of music.” John Beckmann—Prairie Uprising
