About this Event

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Curious about the world of printmaking but don’t know where to start?

Join artist Susan Lefler for a hands-on workshop where you'll turn everyday office supplies into custom works of art.

Unlock your inner maker in this beginner-friendly session focused on the art of relief printing. Instead of traditional wood or linoleum, we’ll be using soft erasers, the perfect entryway material for learning the basics of carving without the intimidation factor.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Design & Transfer: Sketch a simple motif and move it onto your carving surface.
  • Carve with Confidence: Master the use of linoleum carving tools to remove negative space and reveal your design.
  • Inking & Stamping: Learn the proper technique for loading your "stamp" with ink for a crisp, clean transfer.

You’ll walk away with your own hand-carved, reusable stamps and a personalized set of stationery and envelopes featuring your unique designs. Whether you want to create minimalist geometric patterns or whimsical floral designs, this class is the perfect way to make your mark.

All materials, from carving tools to premium cardstock, will be provided. No prior art experience is necessary.

MEET THE MAKER:

Susan Lefler is an Artist and Printmaker based in Alexandria, Virginia. She's drawn to color, pattern and capturing small details of the botanical world. Susan has been an artist for as long as she can remember, but it wasn’t until 2021, when she rediscovered printmaking, that her path toward becoming a full-time artist truly began.

What started as a part-time curiosity in evening art classes quickly bloomed into a full-time passion. The tactile rhythm of carving, the thrill of revealing inking a new block and the quiet, meditative process throughout keeps her enthralled with the printmaking art form.

She delights in making both functional art, think bookmarks, stationery, and stickers, as well as prints designed to be framed and displayed. Follow her on Instagram, @susan_lefler_studios and see works for sale on her website, susanleflerstudios.com.
