The Stafford Gravel Classic (152.08km)
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/419278932
The first of a series of 'involving' gravel rides in 2026, this route is an blend of a couple of ideas I've had floating around for a while.
The salient points are; quite a lot of traffic free riding, relatively little climbing (for the length) and several opportunities for refreshment along the way.
It heads north via Wombourne on the towpath before joining the old railway to Wolverhampton. Back onto the canal as we leave the city and head into Staffordshire. A few changes of tack to test your inner compass across some bridleways and it's onto Cannock Chase for some more offroad. Descending into Stafford for a quick refuel and turning west along another old railway to Newport. Quiet lanes take us through Shifnal and Coalport and onto Route 45 via Bridgnorth and onto Alveley. A sting in the tail climb brings us up to Trimpley and a final gravel descent back into town.
It has the potential to be a grand day out and a stiff challenge given the range of surfaces we'll encounter.
You'll certainly 'feel' this ride.
