About the Music
Sgúrr is a musical exploration into tradition, improvisation, communication and community. In blending traditional dance music from Scotland and Ireland with modern sensibilities to rhythm and harmony, Sgúrr creates music that envelopes listeners in the flow-inducing, cyclical sounds of the outside world. By inspiring a felt sense of rhythm, Sgúrr’s music invites the mind to live inside the body.

Coming from disparate geographic and musical backgrounds, band members Cora (harp), Dylan (guitar/banjo), Ally (fiddle), and Spencer (accordion) unite to create music that comforts and inspires them. Leaning into improvisation and collaboration, they coined the genre “jam-trad” to describe their style.
Sgúrr is the Scottish Gaelic word for “a jagged rocky peak,” which the band has chosen as an homage to the Rocky Mountains, which inspired the band’s genesis and continue to inspire their creative processes.
