Regula Ysewijn MBE is a James Beard award-winning food writer, photographer, and author of 7 books, including ‘Oats in the North, Wheat from the South’, ‘Pride and Pudding’ and ‘Dark Rye and Honey Cake’. Regula has a special interest in historical recipes and the evolution of our food and drink culture. In addition she also works for television at home and abroad, she has created books for the historical drama TV series ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Bridgerton’ and she is a judge on the Belgian version of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ and ‘Junior Bake Off’. Regula was also one of the judges for the Platinum Pudding Competition, founded by Fortnum & Mason.
Born in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium, she lives in Antwerp, where she houses her beloved library of historical cookbooks.
Join us for a cozy baking workshop where we'll explore the rich traditions of Belgian speculaas! We'll make a thick, free-form speculaas typical of a Belgian town, traditionally enjoyed during the winter season and Saint Nicholas festivities. For our second bake we'll dive into the art of printing speculaas! Using carved wooden molds, you'll shape dough into beautifully detailed Saint Nicholas biscuits to take home. As a bonus, I’ll share the secret behind the famous Belgian Biscoff biscuits. Come for the baking, leave with delicious treats and a touch of Belgian tradition!
