Capriccio Clarinet Orchestra from the Netherlands was founded in 1989 by conductor
John de Beer. This means that for more than 35 years, (former) students from the music schools Kielzog (Hoogezand) and ‘t Clockhuys (Haren) have been rehearsing with great pleasure to give concerts everywhere. Indeed, everywhere, because in those 35 years the orchestra has given many concerts by invitation, in the Netherlands and abroad. Concert tours have been made to Western European countries, but also to Hungary, Australia, Russia and Japan. In 2021, daughter Ailien de Beer took over the orchestra after John was terminally ill. John passed away on January 13, 2024. A big loss for Capriccio, but a great reason to continue with music, which was John’s greatest wish.
Now, after 35 years, the orchestra is still alive, full of ambition and with the same passion
and drive as John has guided this orchestra for more than 30 years.
Capriccio Clarinet Orchestra comes to Dublin for the ClarinetFest in the Dublin Convention Centre to play there program on the 1th of July.
They are looking forward to playing in the beautiful St. Ann’s church. During the concert Capriccio plays a varied program. Dream along with the operas of Verdi (Forza del Destino) and Rosinni (Italian in Algiers) and be surprised by the symphonic ballet Callirhoë by the female composer Cecile Chaminade.
Symphonic Ballet Callirhoë from Cecile Chaminade.
The world is working hard to allow music to be created and performed by all gender identities. It doesn't always happen, if you just look at the number of female conductors. Capriccio has now a female conductor, Ailien de Beer, for 2 years. On January 1, 2022, she took over orchestra from her father and founder of Capriccio Clarinet Orchestra, John de Beer.
Nowadays, more and more female musicians, conductors and composers are taking to the stage. This was not obvious in the past, but they did exist! This also applies to Cécile Chaminade, a female composer and pianist from the 19th century. She has written beautiful works and also an orchestral suite Callirhoë, a symphonic ballet. Critics had great admiration for the many qualities of the composer, in her time she was popular for a female composer.
A premiere, because Capriccio Clarinet Orchestra will play the symphonic ballet Callirhoë for you. Ailien de Beer has arranged the piece for clarinet orchestra so that female composers are not forgotten.
