About this Event
Leader: Boot Boutwell
Pace: Slow
Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces.
Appropriate for: All. Children ages 10+ welcome if accompanied by an adult.
About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for over 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
About the walk: Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal, and it has been with us for over a month now. Several early spring flowers are poking their heads above ground, and of course the days continue to get longer. We’ll celebrate the season by heading out into Virginia Wood to enjoy spring in all of its glory. The walk will focus on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history, and of course there will be a poem or three.
Meet in the driveway of #1 Woodland Rd at the intersection of Woodland Rd and Pond St in Stoneham.
Steady rain cancels.
**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**
Contact: Contact Boot Boutwell (781-729-4712) or [email protected] with any questions and/or concerns.
Dogs: This program is not suitable for our furry friends (it's a moderate hike with uneven terrain). Please take a look at our calendar for other walks that are good for dogs to join!
