The Galveston Naval Museum has a rich legacy of volunteers, and each year we continue to grow our community as we work together to preserve history. Our volunteers have the opportunity to make history as we complete our mission towards restoration. We have opened sign-ups for the Spring Volunteer Workday. Our project of the day is painting the exterior of the USS Cavalla. We will be preparing a few spots of the cavalla with needle gunning to help remove any old paint and rust before we use an epoxy paint mixture to preserve the cleaned high-tensile steel that makes the cavalla. Our restoration team will be there to guide and introduce you to the preservation process, as we work together to complete this project. This is a great opportunity for people 15+ looking for volunteer hours in a hands-on setting, as well as those looking for a community to share this interest in WWII naval history.
