Soundscape Memorial: Honoring the Eskimo CurlewA Wild Notes collaboration with Galveston Island State Park
Join us at sunset for a short, intentional live musical offering honoring the memory of the Eskimo Curlew, a bird once native to this region and now considered extinct.
This Soundscape Memorial takes place at the Eskimo Curlew statue, part of artist Todd McGrain’s Lost Bird Project, a global series of sculptures dedicated to remembering extinct bird species and reflecting on humanity’s impact on the natural world.
Rather than a traditional concert, this is a brief, listening-based moment designed to complement the landscape and invite quiet reflection. Visitors are welcome to gather, pause, and experience the music as part of the surrounding soundscape—a shared moment of remembrance, presence, and connection with the living world.
