About this Event
This day is designed to sharpen our preaching, as we examine the work that goes into understanding a passage of the Bible for ourselves and then teaching it faithfully to others. What does it look like to let the text speak through us, to communicate as faithfully as possible the intention and message of the original author in a way that resonates with our own culture and context?
Rupert Bentley-Taylor will be taking us into his study to show how he gets from text to sermon. We will spend time delving into the short but densely-packed New Testament letter of Jude, seeing each step in the process of understanding the Scriptures, applying them to ourselves and then preparing to communicate their message as clearly and faithfully as possible to others.
If you're an experienced preacher then we hope this day will be an encouraging refresher, as we help one another to keep working hard at this vital cornerstone of our ministries.
If you're relatively new to the concept of expository preaching, or new to preaching in general, then we hope this day will help demystify the "Word Work" involved, and give you the tools you need to get going with this life-giving ministry of sharing God's Word.
As usual, a big part of our day will be the opportunity to network with other like-minded church leaders across the Peninsula, and to encourage one another.
Tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring your own lunch. (There is a Morrisons nearby if you forget!)
Plenty of parking freely available at the venue and in nearby streets.
What will the day look like?
We'll have coffee and registration from 9:45am, with the first session kicking off at 10:15am. Throughout the day we will have three 75-minute sessions, in which we will be digging into passages from Jude, looking closely at each text while noting the wider themes and connections. In each session Rupert will help us to move from text to teaching through an engaging interactive presentation.
We will also have plenty of time to catch up with old friends and make new ones, as we look to strengthen the partnerships between the various churches and ministers in our network.
The day will finish with prayer, wrapping up by 4:00pm.
