About this Event
Please join us for the opening reception of , featuring artwork by 4th grade students from Kingston City School District on Friday, May 1st from 5 to 7PM. This opening marks the end of our 40th anniversary offering this program!
Women’s Studio Workshop devotes 8 weeks a year to hosting students from Kingston City Schools for in-depth, day-long art experiences in printmaking and papermaking. These classes are taught by this session’s artists-in-residence, Ivana Carmen, Em Miller, and Jo Locke. Join us to view and celebrate the artwork made by Kingston students from Chambers, E.R. Crosby, and Harry L. Edson Elementary students.
The Art-In-Education program is made possible by the NoVo Foundation, Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, New York State Council of the Arts with the support of Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York Legislature, Klock Kingston Foundation, Stewart’s Holiday Match Program, and Cowles Charitable Trust.
Since 1985, Art-In-Education (AIE) has brought students to Women’s Studio Workshop’s (WSW) professional Printmaking, Papermaking, and Book Arts studios to work as artists with artists. In collaboration with the Kingston City School District, WSW devotes eight weeks each year to providing in-depth, day-long experiences for students. Each fall, advanced high school students come to WSW to work on projects to enhance their college application portfolios. In the spring, WSW works with 4th and 8th grade students on projects to complement their classroom studies.
During full-day sessions, the students break into small groups and spend one day in each studio: Intaglio, Silkscreen, and Papermaking. These classes are taught by artists-in-residence, who are developing projects of their own at WSW. Each AIE session culminates with an art exhibition featuring student work made during the program.
AIE has been ranked the best visual arts education program across all of New York State by the New York State Council on the Arts.
