About this Event
Spring is in the air as the Pennsylvania Philharmonic celebrates 10 years of music education excellence. Each year the in-school and virtual program is designed to entertain and engage students while opening their hearts and minds to classical music. Take a journey with us as we share our beloved selections from the last decade.
One of Aaron Copland’s most iconic pieces, Appalachian Spring, reminds us of the importance of family and community. Set in the Appalachian mountains of Pennsylvania, it was originally composed as a ballet for Martha Graham’s dance company. The well-known song, “Simple Gifts”, is a key melody throughout and celebrates the Shaker principles of simplicity and humility.
Other masterworks that have inspired generations include Stravinsky’s enchanting The Firebird, Life in Exposition of Water, a collaboration by Dan Gallery & Brent Edmondson which focuses on the element of water, the captivating Dreams of Fireflies by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Bernstein’s lively Overture to Candide and more.
Join us for this thrilling retrospective that has something for everyone!
