About this Event

Using stories and photographs from a 25+ year career covering sports at the highest levels, Nikon Ambassador Rod Mar explores how excellence, purpose, and meaningful storytelling begin long before the spotlight arrives. A talk about creativity, preparation, perspective, and finding significance in every moment before and after the whistle, as well as on and off the field.

Please Note: This is a don't miss in-person event that is also livestreamed on the Adorama YouTube channel.

Rod Mar is an award-winning sports photographer, visual storyteller, educator and Nikon Ambassador who believes greatness begins long before the spotlight arrives. Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Rod has photographed some of the world’s biggest sporting events — including multiple Super Bowls, the Olympic Games, NBA Finals, the Final Four and Stanley Cup Finals — while serving as team photographer for the Seattle Seahawks. Yet the philosophy that most shapes his work came not from a superstar athlete, but from legendary small-college football coach Frosty Westering, who often said: “Make the big time where you are.” That idea became the foundation for Rod’s approach to photography, creativity, and life: treat every moment, every assignment, and every person as worthy of your best work — whether you’re shooting the Super Bowl or a local youth game. Known for capturing emotion, humanity, and authenticity through his lens, Rod has worked with clients including Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and NBC Sports. He is also a passionate mentor and speaker who encourages creatives, students, and young professionals to embrace curiosity, adaptability, and purpose in their work.
