About this Event

Dates: Mondays Jan 19, 26 & Feb 2, 9:30am -4pm all days. Sales End: Jan 12. Ticket: $205 + Eventbrite fee. Instructor: Pat Maley. Materials fee: $15. Skills Needed: No previous skill needed. Class Limit: 4 Minimum Age: Adults only. Location: 2nd Floor.

Spinning is a relaxing way to obtain yarns for use in weaving, knitting and crocheting. In this course you will learn the basics- fiber preparation, drafting, wheel mechanics, parts and maintenance of a spinning wheel, and spinning on a wheel. This course includes an introduction to several fibers and a discussion of various types of wheels. You will learn how to ply yarn and how to finish the yarn you have spun. You will receive a comprehensive notebook.

Supplies to Bring:

  • The guild has wheels that you can use, or bring your wheel if you want it checked or tuned up.
  • $15 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted.
  • Bring your lunch and beverages. There won't be time to go out for lunch.

Pat has been spinning and weaving since the late 1960’s. She has been certified by Handweavers Guild of America as a Master Spinner, having completed both levels of the program. She frequently demonstrates spinning, weaving and dyeing at historical venues and pioneer festivals. She has been teaching all types of spinning at the Weaver’s Guild since the late 1980’s.

Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.

If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.

This class is designed for ages 18 and above.

Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
