Best friends and sisters, the four Padavano girls bring loving chaos to their close-knit Italian American neighbourhood. William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him. So, when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano, it's as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family: Sylvie, the family's dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all. But when darkness from William's past begins to block the light of his future, it is Sylvie, not Julia, who becomes his closest confidante. The result is a catastrophic rift that leaves the family inhabiting two sides of a fault line. Can they find their way back to each other? Can love make a broken family whole?
🎄 Book Club Christmas Meet-Up & Blind Book Date Swap 🎁
In the spirit of Christmas, we’re adding something a little extra cosy to our next book club gathering! Along with our usual discussion and catch-up, we’ll be doing a Blind Book Date Gift Swap — a heartwarming way to share the stories we love.
All you need to do is,
✨ Bring along a book you’ve enjoyed and would love to pass on to someone else.
✨ Wrap it up (nothing fancy needed — even newspaper works perfectly!).
✨ Slip a little note inside sharing why you liked it or who you think might enjoy it.
✨ At the meet-up, we’ll each pick a wrapped book to take home — a surprise story chosen with care.
It’s a lovely way to spread a bit of Christmas cheer, connect through books, and maybe discover your next favourite read 🫶
💫Whether you're a literature enthusiast or just looking for an excuse to join a relaxing and fun midweek evening, this club is for you! 📖✨
To give you an idea of what we typically read, since December we have picked and (mostly!) enjoyed:
- the much hyped and anticipated Sally Rooney's "Intermezzo",
 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin
 - "Sorrow and Bliss" by Meg Mason
 - "Orbital" by Samantha Henvey
 - "The Rachel Incident" by Caroline O'Donoghue (this was brilliant!!)
 - "Evenings and Weekends" by Oisin McKenna
 - "Blue Sisters" by Coco Mellors
 - "Before the Coffee gets colds" by Toshikazu Kawaguchi.
 - "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
 - "Sunburn" by Chloe Michelle Howarth
