Special School Music Leaders Development Morning

Friendly, relaxed sessions for music leaders and educators
About this Event

Join our accessible music facilitators for a friendly gathering aimed at celebrating and empowering leaders of music education in special schools! This event is a unique opportunity for music educators to come together, share insights, highlight great resources, unpick challenges and discuss good practice, as well as a place for our newer music leads to gather inspiration and ideas!

The session on Tuesday 3rd March will focus on all of the practical considerations involved in running music activities in special schools - from best ways to add moments of intensive interaction within group lessons, how to model musical engagement for other staff in the room (who may be less confident with music) along with top tips for really practical tweaks and equipment we return to again and again.

All music leads welcome – no prior experience necessary, but all expertise valued!

This meeting’s panel

Rosie Hood is a freelance musician and inclusive music facilitator working in school and community settings across South Yorkshire. Having recently completed a PGCert in “Music and Children with Special Needs & Abilities: Sounds of Intent” Rosie is an enthusiastic advocate of the use of the Sounds of Intent framework to differentiate musical activities to make them accessible to all, as well as to celebrate progress. Rosie works with a number of organisations outside of darts including Live Music Now, Grimm & Co and Sheffield Music Hub.

Dyzelle Sutherland is a violinist and community musician who is passionate about music education and making music more inclusive. As part of her role at darts, Dyzelle manages and delivers on the All Aboard Music programme, which aims to help disabled young people to improve musical skills and confidence as well as empowering pupil voice, choice and autonomy through music and Makaton. Dyzelle recently partnered with co-host Rosie to create brand new accessible music resources for the Royal Opera House.
