A Better Way is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor Continuing Education for LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, LEP (62361). This course meets the qualifications for Continuing Education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. A Better Way maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.

This introductory course is designed to equip educators and child welfare professionals working in school settings with comprehensive knowledge and practical strategies for effectively supporting students with special education needs. Participants will gain a deep understanding of various special education requirements, learn how to create inclusive learning environments, and explore best practices for individualized education plans and differentiated instruction. The course will focus on fostering a supportive and collaborative school community that prioritizes the holistic development and well-being of all students. The material will be delivered by PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout (small group) discussions and participant workbook (handout).


Apply knowledge of various special education needs to create tailored learning plans for students with diverse requirements.

Foster a collaborative and empathetic school environment, promoting a culture of inclusivity and support among educators and students.

1.) Define the concept of special education and recognize its historical background and legal framework. 2.) Identify different types of special education needs and understand the unique challenges associated with each. 3.) Develop 2-3 effective communication strategies to foster collaboration with parents, caregivers, special education teams, and students. 4.) Identify 2 ways in which system-involved youth clients in need of special education accommodations can benefit from practical strategies learned in the course.
