Andy Verhoff, former site manager of the Campus Martius and Ohio River Museums in Marietta, will share the history of the inland rivers towboat, the W.P. SNYDER Jr., moored at the river museum. From the 1910s to the 1950s, the steam powered paddle wheel of the SNYDER pushed barges laden with coal on the Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. Join us to discover what it was like to live and work on the boat, how she ended up at a museum why was she called a towboat, when she instead pushed barges, and what it was like to care for her.Lecture is included with museum admission and free for Ohio History Connection Members.
This program is part of Ohio Moves: Transportation, April's theme during America 250-Ohio's celebration of our state's heritage.
