Space Faring Civilisation Film Festival 2026: Storytelling for a Progressive Humanity
Join us at Dendy Cinemas Canberra on Sunday, 23 August 2026, for a curated screening event held during Australia’s National Science Week.
The Space Faring Civilisation Film Festival (SFC) provides a platform for stories that explore scientific themes and the future of humanity. We focus on narrative storytelling that looks toward a progressive future, moving away from common dystopian tropes to highlight human ingenuity and exploration.
Program Schedule:
* 10:00 am – 1:00 pm | Stop-Motion Workshop Stall (Near Escalator Space): Visit our interactive stall near the cinema entrance. This workshop offers a hands-on look at the technical process of stop-motion animation, suitable for those interested in the craft of filmmaking. (Beginners) - Free Access
* 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm | Cinema Screening: A 2-hour showcase in Cinema 6 featuring short films in the categories of Sci-Fi, Documentary, and Animation. These films are selected for their focus on science communication and the spirit of an ever-advancing humanity. - Included in booking
* 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm | Q&A and Speeches: Following the films, we will hold a 1-hour session including guest speaker insights and a Q&A. The session will conclude with the announcement of the SFC Film Festival Awards, including the Science Award. - Included in booking
* 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm | Networking Session (Foyer): We invite attendees to stay for an hour of networking in the Dendy foyer. This is an opportunity for filmmakers, science enthusiasts, and members of the community to connect and discuss the themes presented in the films.
