About this Event
On Friday 5th June, Clapham Chamber Concerts presents its 2025-2026 season finale concert. Presented and performed by Artistic Director, BBC Symphony Orchestra clarinettist, Jonathan Parkin, with Ensemble SW4, this concert will explore older classics, alongside both lesser known and newly composed works for the gorgeous combination of clarinet and string quartet.
Schubert’s playful String Trio in B flat will open the concert, before Jonathan introduces his audience to the absolutely stunning Souvenirs de Voyage by American composer Bernard Herrmann. Best known for his work in film scoring, this was Herrmann’s last concert piece, composed in 1967, by which time he had lived in England for several years, and so the work is deeply rooted in British culture. A rare chance to hear this gem. The second half of the concert will feature In the Grey Twilight, an atmospheric work, composed especially for this concert by CCC’s in-house composer, David Wallace. Concert goers will then be treated to a performance of Weber’s dazzling Clarinet Quintet, full of operatic flair and showy virtuosity – guaranteed to entertain!
The performance, which includes an interval, starts at 7.00pm at St Paul’s Church, Rectory Grove, Clapham SW4. Tickets will be available at the door or book in advance via Eventbrite.
