About this Event
South Carolina 4-H Legislative Day is an engaging event designed for 4-H members, volunteers, and supporters to connect with state legislators and champion the 4-H program. Scheduled for March 10, 2026, at the South Carolina State House in Columbia, this event offers participants a platform to share their personal experiences and the positive impact of 4-H programming in their communities. This event not only fosters leadership skills among youth but also emphasizes the importance of civic involvement in shaping community programs.
During 4-H Legislative Day, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with their local representatives, discuss the benefits of the 4-H program, and learn about civic engagement. Youth can observe the legislative processes in action as it will be budget season when we are there!
The day's activities will include a brief ceremony on the North Steps at 11:00 a.m. (please be in place by 10:50 a.m.) where you can stand with your county delegation and take a picture with your county sign.
Youth and Adults (volunteers, parents, chaperones, etc.) should register by March 6th.
County Delegation logistics:
- Dress in your best professsional outfit! This means suits, slacks/khakies, button-down shirts, blouses, skirts, dresses and professional footwear that is still comfortable for walking and standing. (No cutoffs, worn or distressed clothing or jeans with holes, flip flops, etc.)
- Wear something 4-H Green!
- Please watch the weather and come prepared for the conditions.
- Be sure to check-in with Laurens County Agent, Lauren Smith to get a Legislative Day freebie.
- Representative Patrick Haddon has invited representatives from five counties (Union, Cherokee, Spartanburg, Laurens, Greenville) to meet with our 4-H members and families in the Blatt Building. Plan to meet outside the Blatt Building at 9:45 a.m. so we can take our group through security and be ready to start our meeting promptly at 10:00 a.m.
- Laurens County 4-H families will be on their own for lunch. Please feel free to bring a lunch and picnic on the grounds or walk to a nearby restaurant.
- After lunch, at 1:00pm, we can enter the Statehouse and observe our Representatives and Senators at work and will be recognized in their respective chambers.
- Alternative fun activity that can be done at the Statehouse: https://scprt.widen.net/s/wb8fbmwtwl/21-scp-3971-state-house-scavenger-hunt-clues-and-map
