About this Event
On 30 and 31 January, the Teal House Foundation (Warsaw) in collaboration with Developing Artists Foundation brings to London the UK premiere of Sorry for My English — a daring and intimate theatrical experiment exploring how we connect when the language we use isn’t entirely our own. Beyond vocabulary and grammar, the performance reveals communication as energy, rhythm, and the deeply human desire to be understood.
Created and performed by artists in exile from across the world, Sorry for My English turns linguistic “imperfection” into creative power. Through humour, vulnerability, and playful experimentation, the ensemble transforms their shared foreignness into a rich and resonant theatrical language — one that speaks directly to English-speaking audiences.
The performance blends monologues, poetry, music, and movement, drawing on original texts written by the performers themselves. Many of them — actors, writers, educators, and culture-makers — now live and create in a second language, navigating the shifting borders of identity and expression.Through their stories, Sorry for My English reflects the bittersweet beauty of trying to voice love, loss, and belonging in words that are both intimate and unfamiliar.
At once raw, funny, and deeply moving, Sorry for My English invites audiences to witness the courage it takes not only to speak — but to be heard. It’s an ode to the act of making a home in a language that doesn’t yet fully feel like one’s own.
