Musicians and Poets
Elena Skye and Boo Reiners of The Demolition String Band, weave rustic harmonies from joy and heartbreak, redemption and despair, myth and real life. With sounds that spring from the grooves of a well-worn dance floor, they are always striving to remake what a string band can be while proudly holding up tradition.
Jon and Deena began performing in the streets in Paris and Rome in the early 80s. They started The Cucumbers and found a home in the indie pop scene in Hoboken, NJ. Their songwriting has been called "direct and artful," by The New York Times, Deena's voice "...incredible: kidstuff and wisdom merged," by the Village Voice. Their songs have been recorded by Jackson Browne, Dar Williams, Marshall Crenshaw and featured in films and on TV. Their latest release is “Hello George,” a novella, and “As You Heard Me,” its accompanying soundtrack - a book with music/music with a book. “Hello, George,” by Jon Fried, is the tale of an aspiring young music publisher in search of a reclusive songwriter. Full of fun, love, humor and the frustrations of life in and around the music business (circa 1990s and beyond), the story leads us on a search for what’s real, what’s imagined and most importantly, what we hear and how we are heard. “Hello George” is published as a chapbook/e-book with accompanying music “As You Heard Me,” – the actual song demos referred to in the novella, plus bonus tracks.
Bill McGarvey
Ed Fogarty
Karyn Kuhl first received national acclaim for her early bands Gut Bank and Sexpod, growing out of the vibrant Hoboken music scene and the legendary club Maxwell's. (“Gut Bank’s The Dark Ages is one exceptional debut album.” — Robert Palmer, New York Times). Currently at work on a new album, Kuhl released two songs on Dromedary Records No Traces/The Tower in April 2024 ( “Here we find her delivering a strong pair of songs that make one hopeful for an LP. The a-side is a solid confessional rocker while the flip is a darker cinematic trip. Grab this!”- The Big Takeover) The 3rd single Cat Swamp Road is out now on all streaming platforms & available for download on .( “ We know Karyn Kuhl can howl with the best of them. How divine that she can also create such a powerful experience with a song that barely rises above a whisper.”-The Constant Listener/ ) ( “Kuhl’s elegant and hypnotic voice and colorful melodies make her solemn and evocative songs about heartbreak and alienation linger after each listen.”- Cindy Stagoff )
Ed Seifert is a lifelong, New Jersey resident. He fronts his own band, called Ed Seifert and Oh, The Humanity!, and has performed with the band Yung Wu since 2009, and was a member of the Campfire Flies and Speed The Plough.
