About this Event
We need both top-down approaches (such as CBT) as well as bottom-up approaches (such as somatic work) in safe trauma therapy. Trauma often cannot be verbalised (easily), as trauma lives in the body. Working the body can be equally tricky, as the body may feel foreign, disconnected, or frightened for clients (and us as therapists!).
In this training we will explore a host of somatic complaints (such as headaches) and how they might relate to trauma, whilst practicing with different somatic techniques, such as somatic resourcing. Clients often show subtle signs of resourcing (such as stroking their hair). We will work to recognise them, slow it down, and actively incorporate them into trauma therapy.
We will also practice with tracking the body, and verbalising some of the tracking that we have done with clients. What is happening in the body in therapy? How can we work with it (rather than against it)? How can we befriend the body, whilst supporting the client to become more aware of what is going on for them on a somatic level?
This training is experiential in nature. This means you will have the chance to discuss and practice with some of the things we will be covering. The training is suitable for both student and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists, as well as related professions.
This Training Day can be taken on its own, or as the 7th training day as part of the NCPS Quality Checked 10-day Foundation Diploma - Therapeutic Safety in Trauma. It is taught 100% Online.
