Solo Piano Recital by Luís Vaz

Dear all,

My name is Luís Vaz, and I currently study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in my 3rd year of the bachelor studies.

This year I am organizing solo piano recitals in the Netherlands.

My intention is to explore and show my audience the connection between the music of two seemingly unrelated composers- Schumann and Bartok. In Schumann's 'Fantasiestücke,' a collection of 8 pieces, we can clearly discern the duality that Schumman had in mind. On one hand, 'Eusebius' embodies his dreamy and introspective side, while on the other hand, 'Florestan' reflects his passionate and impetuous character. In Bartok’s piano sonata's first movement, the listener is initially immersed in a percussive and intense theme, only to be pleasantly surprised by a folk melody, exuding humor, in the piano, which starkly contrasts the initial theme both in sound and character.
