Love, loss and acceptance are at the centre of Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite’s beautiful dance work Solo Echo, created in 2012 for the Nederlands Dans Theater, where Pite is the resident choreographer.
The powerful, refined movements of the dancers capture the transience and losses of life, and our acceptance of them. The music comprises two sonatas for cello and piano by the melancholic Johannes Brahms. The choreography is based on a poem by Mark Strand, “Lines of Winter”. Along with gently falling snowflakes, thoughts of the sadness of winter are evoked.
Crystal Pite returns this season with Frontier, part of Dusk to Dawn.
We Loved Each Other So Much
Creation by Yoann Bourgeois
Choreographer and acrobat Yoann Bourgeois is fascinated by the experience of vertigo, which he believes reflects the upheavals of civilisation. In We Loved Each Other So Much, which sees its world premiere in spring 2024, airspace takes centre stage. In this virtuoso, energetic and intense dance work, Yoann Bourgeois explores the inner fire that is crucial in driving human movement forward. He has previously enjoyed success at The Göteborg Opera with the bold and poetic Hurricane, Fugue/Trampoline and Our Music.
