Join Climate Justice Ottawa for an evening of warm soup and burning solidarity to raise funds in support of Nehirowisiw Aski land defenders blocking logging companies from their traditional territories. The event will feature a cozy community dinner featuring a wide variety of soups, art making, screenprinting, and screening of two documentaries about the struggle by the land guardians against the forestry industry.

The is an organization formed by Nehirowisiw women, made up of matriarchs, hereditary chiefs, and land defenders of Nehirowisiw territory to advocate for the revitalization of matriarchal and traditional structures. They have been on the frontlines blockading and protesting the overexploitation of forests in their territory.
This year, a winterized camp was set up for continued occupation at what is known as Camp Souveraineté or Camp 134. This allows for the Gardiens and supporters on the territory to have a home base and launch other blockades across their territory. Earlier this month, a group of Indigenous elders and chiefs launched a lawsuit to void all forestry permits on a vast territory in northern Quebec, claiming that the land’s ancestral occupants were not properly consulted and the logging activities violate their traditional rights.
Tickets are available on a sliding scale, and includes two tokens that can be used to purchase soup or arts. More tokens are available for purchase at the event. Please buy your tickets in advance so we can prepare for the number of attendees.
