Early music with a modern twist, this programme includes an exciting orchestral version of Bach's famous Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, plus a ten‑piece brass arrangement of his well‑known Sleepers Awake, and Purcell's stirring rondo from Abdelazar, reworked into the magnificent Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten. The evening will also feature local rising star, Harry Dixon who will perform Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto. Whilst not an obvious link to early music, Rachmaninoff himself acknowledged the influence of JS Bach, considering him "an inexhaustible source of musical knowledge and fundamental to his own musical education and development". Harry has the opportunity to perform as the Winner of the Portsmouth Performing Arts Concerto Award 2025.
An evening of glorious music in spectacular surroundings, this will appeal to all music lovers and an opportunity to introduce youngsters to the exciting sound of a full Symphony Orchestra.
