About this Event
Why SOLE FOOD Matters
Across the country, more and more people are being asked to do more with less. The recent cuts to SNAP benefits, combined with rising rent, food, and utility costs, have pushed families — especially Black and Brown families — further into economic precarity. The systems meant to sustain us are breaking under the weight of inequality.
SOLE FOOD: FOR THE COMMUNITY was born from that truth. It’s not just a market — it’s a response.
When our government fails to meet basic needs, community steps up. We gather, we share, we create, and we care — not as charity, but as resistance.
Hosted by House of Hattie × The Re-Sole 206 × Autmn Club, this post-Thanksgiving event unites local vendors, community organizations, and neighbors for a day of giving, nourishment, and connection. Visitors can shop local, enjoy food vendors, connect to resources, and take part in our “Soles for the Soul” sneaker giveaway, where donated sneakers are distributed to those in need.
Economic Solidarity in Action
SOLE FOOD also aligns with a growing national movement toward economic Blackouts — moments where we withhold our dollars from corporate giants to highlight how powerful our collective spending truly is.
But beyond boycotting, we believe in redirecting: investing in the small, local, and Black-owned businesses that keep our neighborhoods alive.
When we choose to spend locally, we circulate wealth, build resilience, and challenge extractive economies.
SOLE FOOD is a space where protest meets purpose — where the simple act of shopping becomes an act of solidarity.
We can’t always control the systems that oppress us, but we can control how and where we move our money.
Why It Matters Now
In moments like these, the most radical thing we can do is show up for one another.
SOLE FOOD isn’t just a marketplace — it’s a movement toward reconnection. It’s about using what’s broken in our systems as the blueprint for something better: a network of care, creativity, and shared strength.
Every dollar spent, every meal shared, every sneaker donated is a declaration that we refuse to be divided or dismissed.
We believe that when we shop with purpose and support with heart, we create a culture where care isn’t just seasonal — it’s structural.
